Designed by Wing Commander R. Lutyens, F.R.I.B.A. (son of Sir Edwin Lutyens), and built in 1948. The cottages commemorate Henry George Alan, the Ninth Duke of Northumberland (killed in action in Flanders in 1940), and other sons of Alnwick who lost their lives in the Second World War.
