In the early 1970s some trees were being cut down in ‘Sanctuary Wood’, Denwick, to the east of Alnwick. In this connection a short length of two-foot gauge railway was laid to lead logs towards the small saw bench. Manpower was used to move the small 4-wheeled trucks carrying the logs. The line was no more than 100 yards in length and was in use for only about six months. It is believed that the sawmill was moved to a number of other locations locally and that some of the rail line may also have been moved to these locations. No traces of the line exist.
